Ruby red in colour, this wine has a bouquet of savoury red berry fruit, black cherry and vanilla that combine with aromas of black forest berries, cloves and dark violets, finishing with soft stony notes. Dry on the palate with a core of fruit, savoury tannins give it a great texture. The oak influence is obvious with baking spices, brown sugar and smokiness. Expect this wine to improve further with careful cellaring over the next 7-10 years.

Sourced from Mount Riley's Brookby Road vineyard in the Southern Valleys sub-region, where the diversity of their Pinot Noir clones allow them to make a complex and complete wine with vibrant, pure fruit character and depth of flavour. The grapes are cold soaked, fermented in small parcels and aged for 7 months in French oak barriques. On the nose, ripe cherry and plum characters are supported by hints of savoury spice and dried herb. The palate is approachable with soft tannins and intense fruit flavour. Silky texture and great length. Great as an aperitif or with savoury tomato or mushroom based dishes, salmon, red meat or pasta.

Mt Difficulty is a boutique winery located in Bannockburn, Central Otago, and was named after the mountain overlooking Felton road and the southern Cromwell basin. As the vineyards are ageing Mt Difficulty are starting to see additional complexity emerging each vintage. Inviting and opulent, the palate is flush with sweet cherry & blueberry, followed by trademark earth & savoury notes and framed by baking spice and fine grained French Oak. Land that was once a high country sheep station is now a flourishing vineyard. Sheep and rabbits co-existed on the land for quite some time but the sheep couldn't keep up with the nocturnal activity of the rabbits, and in the end were driven off the land. Rabbits now run free on the vineyard and fuelled by high altitude Pinot Noir, some are reputed to be the size of ponies, but that's another story... The Rabbit Ranch Pinot Noir is made in a very soft, fruit forward, low tannin style - a wine to be savoured and supped, rather than an assault on the senses.
